Mural commission for Meeting Room, Emerge, Sion Hill, Bath. August 2022

In Summer of 2022 I was commissioned to design and paint a large mural on the outside wall of a new community garden in inner city Gloucester. Davies and Duckworth ran workshops with community groups and local primary schools to engage with the residents.

Community Workshops in Barton and Tredworth, Gloucester, Summer 2022 engaging with school and youth groups responding to a mural project for a new community garden.

Plaster casts taken from the surface of the ground. The depth of these casts was caused by the severely wet winter of 2019/20 and the weight of the horses caused deep poaching of the saturated mud.

Revealing shape and form by shrouding. Naturally formed cracks in the ground during the summer months were revealed when an ancient trampoline was lifted from the ground where it had been abandoned.

Interested in the properties of peat and its preservative qualities I experimented by burying paper in the ground to record the natural composting and deterioration which occurs.

An area of poached earth in the field beside my house has been an abundant source of inspiration.
